WEST HARBOUR BOROUGH

MONTHLY MEETING OF COUNCIL The monthly meeting of the West Harbour Borough Council was held at Ravensbourne last night,, the following being present:—The Mayor (Mr E.. J. Taylor), and Crs F. Mitchell, J. Robertson, L. F. Evans, P. H. Davis, G. Cook, A. C. Deans, H. F. Jeffries and .W. JI Dyson. The chairman of the Works Committee reported that the running of road motor services between Dunedin and Port Chalmers would entail more repair work on the highway.—Authority was given, on the recommendation of the committee, for the engagement of two additional men, and for the purchase of another truck and of a tank sprayer, should they be required. The Post and Telegraph Department advised that a public telephone booth would be installed at Sawyers’ Bay when materials were available. A request had been made by the council for the provision of such a facility. The council decided to make a donation of £5 to help in defraying the expense of sending the newsletter, conducted by Mr J. B. Grant, to local servicemen abroad.
