BOLTING HORSES IN ARENA (0.C.) ' ' SYDNEY, Jan. 7
Two Tasmanian brothers figured in an unrehearsed “ wild west ’’ drama at Bushy Park Show, near Hobart, in a waggon drawn by two bolting horses. The brothers Darrel! and Eric Marshall had entered the horses in a class for a “ pair attached to a lorry.” Darrell Marshall was driving, and his brother was standing beside him when the horses took fright. The reins broke, and the horses careered about the arena .at a gahop. Darrell Marshall climbed over the front of the waggon and along •the pole. As he reached their heads the horses swung almost at right angles and threw him— fortunately, well clear of the waggon. Eric Marshall, who had remained on the waggon, then attempted a similar feat. Hundreds of people watched, breathless, as he struggled to keep his balance on the pole. Finally he jumped on to the back of the offside horse and got a firm grip of the bridle. He was able to keep the horses away from the crowd, and managed to run the waggon out of the arena. It appeared that the whole turnout would go over an embankment near the Styx River, but he managed to stop the horses near a fence. Later, the team was awarded second prize in its class.
