SPORTS AT WAITATI

SUCCESSFUL GATHERING A successful sports meeting and carnival was held at Bland Park, Waitati, during the holidays. The weather was fine, and a crowd of over 600 attended the meeting. A reception in the form of a morning tea w'as held, at which the judges and prominent citizens associated with different societies in the district met Mr P. Neilson, M.P., who opened the function. Mrs A. Stevens represented the Patients and Prisoners’ Aid Society. The children present were specially catered for, each child receiving a toy. Items by two pipers, songs by a group of local girls, and an exhibition of Highland dancing by Miss Bath Tate, of Wellington, added interest and variety to the proceedings. The results of the principal events were as follows; Beauty Competition (judge. Miss Lily Stevens). —Miss Waitati (Miss Thelma Powell) 1, Miss New Zealand (Miss Shirley Le Gal) 2, Mrs Waitati (Mrs C. Robinson) 3. Ugly Man Competition.—Mr N. Hoskins. Baby Show (judge. Mrs Thomson).— Champion baby; Eunice Dawn Gallon. Boy, six months and under: Baby Potter. Girl, six months and under: Baby Gallon.
