LIFEBOATS RAMMED
JAPANESE RUTHLESSNESS NEW DELHI, Jan. 7.
Sixteen British and Indian merchant seamen have reached shore, the survivors of a crew of 72, many of whom were drowned when a Japanese submarine rammed their boats after sinking the freighter off the Indian coast. One survivor said that the submarine, after sinking the ship, began methodicaliy ramming and machine-gunning the men in the boats and on the rafts.
