PROHIBITION IN AMERICA

PETITIONS FOR LEGISLATION WASHINGTON, Jan. 5. Responding to the demands of 100,000 individual petitioners to the White House, the Judicial Sub-committee will begin hearings on national prohibition legislation when Congress meets next week. A Bill introduced by Representative Bryson last March would ban intoxicating beverages for the duration to reduce absenteeism and so conserve man-power to speed war production.

A bitter fight is expected. Opponents contend that it would be unfair to impose prohibition on servicemen who are overseas.
