Fire In Rubbish Heap.—The Oamaru Volunteer Fire Brigade was called out, about 1.30 p.m. yesterday, to extinguish a fire in a rubbish heap, which, superintendent Herron said, was probably caused by spontaneous combustion. The location of the fire was at the back of Mr Skinner’s property in Reed street, and the brigade was able to control the outbieak by means of the bucket pump. Lawn Tennis Player’s Success.—Mrs R. J. Taylor has added to her list of successes by winning the Mixed Doubles Championship at the South Canterbury Association’s tournament, just concluded, her partner being G. C. Reid. Mrs Taylor was also a finalist in the Womens Singles, being defeated by Mrs K. Lane, and a finalist with her sister, Miss E. Miller, in the Women’s Doubles ChampionSr Waitaki Euchre.—The first euchre tournament for the New Year held by the Waitaki Hall Trust proved to be very successful. Dance music was supplied by Mrs Hewson, with extras by Mr Mountford. Euchr prizes were won by Mrs Brunton and Mrs Maiharoa and Mr F. Mountford and Mr B. Hewson, the consolation prizes going to Miss C. Whittaker and Mr F. Dandy.
