OBITUARY

MR J. A. ROBERTSON Mr John A. Robertson, who died at his residence at St. Clair on Tuesday night, was well known in school-teaching circles in Otago, particularly in the early years of the century. He became a pupil teacher at the Normal School in 1885, and later had charge of the Lovell’s Flat and Fairfax Schools. In 1895 he was

appointed second assistant at the High Street School, and was promoted to the position of first assistant in 1899. He held this appointment till 1925, when he retired on superannuation. Mr Robertson was deeply Interested In the work of the Presbyterian Church, and had been an office-bearer of Knox and First Churches for the past 50 years. He was a keen bowler, and after being a member of the Dunedin Bowling Club for several years he joined the St. Clair Club. He is survived by his wife, two daughters—Mrs L. le F. Ensor, of Wellington, and Mrs S. Riach, of Miller’s Flat—and five sons—Messrs J. H. Robertson (Wellington), D. I. Robertson (Edendale), G. M. Robertson (Dargaville). M. McK. Robertson (Cromwell), and K. I. Robertson (Lawrence). Another son, Mr Douglas Robertson, was killed in . the 1914-18 war.
