OBITUARY

MR THOMAS FRASER Mr Thomas Fraser, who died recently at the residence of his son-in-law, Mandeville, was a well-known and highly-re-spected settler of the Owaka district. He came out from Scotland over 40 years ago, and for some years worked on several well-known stations in Southland—Ayrburn, Castle Rock, and Glenure among the number. He afterwards started dairy farming at Cherry Farm, Katea, where he resided until a few weeks before his death. He was a man of sterling qualities, his word was his bond, and he possessed the spirit of sturdy independence characteristic of the true Scot. He retained an interest in current happenings to the last. Mrs Fraser died two years ago, and their only son was killed at Passchendaele in 1917.
