SALE OPPOSED

HOUSE PROPERTY DEAL MEETING OF COMMITTEE The Dunedin Land Sales Committee at a sitting yesterday afternoon heard the first contested case since It commenced its operations. When the committee had before it at a previous sitting the application of Annie Violet Smith for the approval of the sale of her property, 150 Union street, to Samuel Blight, Mr W. J. Mathers, on behalf of the Crown, opposed the application. He submitted that the purchase price, £1175, was excessive. At yesterday’s hearing there were present Messrs E. J. Anderson (chairmanl, and D J. Ross (member of the committee), and Messrs W. T. Spelman (registrar) and W. J. Mathers. The vendor was represented by Mi W. Ward, and evidence on her behalf was given by James Alexander McDonald, a partner in the firm of John Reid and Sons, Ltd., who handed in a statement concerning the property He said he considered that it was well worth the price asked. Cross-examined by .Mr Mathers, witness said he was quite satisfied with the foundations of the house, : which were of wood. Percy W. Stabb, a member of the firm of James Samson and Co., said the property was quite 50 years pld, but the price asked was not excessive. A previous owner had spent a large sum on additions and improvements For the Crown, J. A. Wilson, district valuer said the place had been sold in 1883, and had probably been built in the previous year. In his opinion, a fair valuation of the property would be £950. After hearing the submissions of Mr Ward and Mr Mathers the committee reserved its decision. Sales Approved
