TARGETS IN NORWAY
AMERICAN HEAVY BOMBERS POWER STATION AND METAL MINE (Rec. 11 p.m.) LONDON, Nov. 16. Targets in Norway bombed this morning by the U.S.A.A.F. were the power station at Rjukan and the molybdenum mines at Knaben. Large formations of Fortresses and Liberators made the attack, which is described as successful. The bombers, without escort, destroyed six enemy planes. Two bombers are missing. A New Zealand Typhoon fighter squadron led by. a New Zealander, Wing Commander J. D. Scott, this afternoon attacked ships near Le Havre. An armed coaster was left in flames and sinking, and the second vessel was on fire, with the superstructure shot away. Scott said, “We attacked them from mast height." Some of the pilots saw Germans jumping over the side. Typhoon fighter-bombers, diving through a gap in clouds, this morning attacked seaplane hangars near Brest. The leader saw bombs score direct hits on hangars and buildings nearby. Mosquitoes bombed a spirit plant near St. Nazaire.'
