Another change in location is being made by the New Zealand Petroleum Company in the search for oil in Taranaki, states a report issued from the head office of thb company in Gisborne. Following upon the drilling of No. 1 well at Uruti, and the location in that well of a basement of JuraTrias rock at 1070 ft, the drilling plant is being dismantled and preparations are being made to sink No. 2 test well at a poir.t about four miles southwestward and near the main southnorth coast road. Drilling at this new location is expected to start about November 20. Drilling at Uruti was commenced in September following the abandonment of the Devon No. 2 well near New Plymouth at a depth of 6177 ft, after tests for oil and gas on the sandstone horizons intersected had proved negative.
