OBITUARY

MR L. TUCKEY

Mr Luke Tuckey, who died at Dunedin on Sunday at the age of 83, was born in Victoria, and came to the West Coast many years ago with his parents. He was connected all his working life with the printing trade. In the old piecework days Mr Tuckey walked from the Coast to Canterbury and south to Oamaru, where he obtained a frame as a compositor, later removing to Dunedin, where he was employed by the Otago Daily Times for about 50 years as a compositor and later as a proof reader." He was a keen bowler, and played as a member of the Caledonian Club up till about six years ago. He is survived by. two daughters and a son.

(Rec. 8 p.m.) LONDON. Nov. Is. The death has occurred of Mr Joseph Rank, a millionaire miller; aged 89. When he was 14 years of age he swept the floors In ’ his father's windmill at Hull. After his apprenticeship he became a journeyman in Aberdeen and started business in .1875. He was-one of the greatest benefactors in Britain, and his gifts to the Methodist Church alone are estimated at over £1,000,000.
