SOVIET INTENTIONS

FORMER POLISH TERRITORY DETERMINED ON ANNEXATION MEXICO CITY, Nov. 14. An indication that Russia is determined to annex the Polish territory received in the agreement between Germany and the Soviet after the Nazi invasion of Poland was given by the Soviet Ambassador, M. Oumansky, in a speech. “ Certain commentators calculate that the Russian forces beyond Kiev at present are only 145 kilometres from Russia’s western border,” M. Oumansky said. “ I wish it were so, but we still have to retrieve 450 kilometres to reach the frontier with Poland. Only then will all the Soviet Ukraine be liberated from the Nazi yoke.” The Mexico City correspondent of the New York Times says: "Polish quarters here explained that the territory 450 kilometres west of Kiev includes the Polish towns of Wilno, Grodno, and Lwow. Other diplomats said it was the first time a Soviet official had publicly announced such a claim. 'VI. Oumansky’s statement, coming shortly after the Moscow conference, was undoubtedly the result of instructions from the Kremlin.”
