PORT CHALMERS BOROUGH

MEETING OF COUNCIL The monthly meeting of the Port Chalmers Borough Council, held last, night, was attended by the Mayor (Mr H. S. Watson) and Crs A. L. S. Cassie, W. D. Campbell. H. C. Williamson, J. Matthews, C. O. Knewstubb. and F C. Smith. The Waikouaiti County Council wrote asking members of the Borough Council to attend a meeting of members of Ihe County Councils of Wailiemo and Waikouaiti and the Borough Councils of Palmerston and Waikouaiti, to be held on November 29 for the purpose ot appointing a representative to Pill the vacancy on the Otago Hospital Board caused by the resignation of Mrs C. A. Fraser.—The council protested against the manner in which the election of a new member was to be conducted. (J, opinion was expressed that, if possible, a postal ballot among members of the local bodies should be arranged. The Otago Hospital Board wrote advising that it was its intention to apply to the Local Government Loans for authority to raise a loan of £200,000, to be used for the purpose of building a new block. —Received The town clerk was granted leave ot absence to attend the annual meeting of the New Zealand Institute of Town Clerks at Napier
