ALL-PARTY GOVERMENT

MARSHAL BADOGLIO’S INTENTIONS

RUGBY, Oct. 31. Marshal Badoglio arrived in Naples and immediately made contact with the aged ltalian philosopher, Benedetto Croce, who has lived in Capri for years, and Count Sforza, former Foreign Minister, who returned to Naples after many years of exile in America. A correspondent reports that Marshal Badoglio’s intention is to form a Government at once from all parties, including Communists. He also stated that an Italian army was being raised to fight with the Allies against the Germans, and that large numbers of known Fascist leaders had already been arrested on his orders.

Benedetto C.roce is probably the most influential figure in the Italian political scene. He told the press that he favoured the abdication of the King of Italy and the immediate creation of a Regency for the Prince of Naples, aged six, who is a son of the Crown Prince of Italy. Croce claims that a Regency is the best solution of the present chaotic situation, and could be established without damaging Italy’s republican aspirations. Croce admitted that the industrial population of North Italy was tending towards Socialism and Communism.
