BENGAL FAMINE
DEATHS IN CALCUTTA
(Rec. 10 p.m.) LONDON, Nov. 1. A total of 1320 people were admitted to hospital and 698 died in Calcutta last week as a result of the Bengal famine, says Reuter's correspondent in Calcutta. The press praises Lord Wavell’s prompt actions, and the newspaper Statesman says the Viceroy’s visit to Bengal may be “ the turning point of this tragic affair."
