MIDDLE EAST DIVISION
ACTIVITIES AT BASE CAMP The N.Z.E.F. Times this week devotes over a full page to the Patriotic Fund Board expenditure statement for all .the services, including a summary of the audited accounts for 12 months' operations in the Middle East. This is the first comprehensive statement that has been issued, and it is of immediate interest to all New Zealanders in the Middle East. An important function of the N.Z.E.F. Times is the restoration of lost photographs and personal property, particu- i larly photographs wrongly included in New Zealand after censoring. There are often many applicants for one set of lost property. A group of keen yachtsmen visited Aboukir as the week-end guests of the R.A.F. Boat Club. Sailing 12ft National class boats, the New Zealanders acquitted themselves well over two days’ racing, finishing with 63 points to their hosts’ 80. The rowers are well advanced with their training for the coming season, and, though no definite fixtures have been arranged, the Maadi Camp Rowing Club will again take part at Egyptian regattas, in addition to holding its own fixtures. The crews so far tried include C. Johnson, the Otago and British Empire Games representative, Beaton and Macdonald, of Awarua, and Pay, also from Southland. With the early enthusiasm for the new season’s games, soldiers are filling in the interval between summer and winter with off-duty practice at Rugby football, Association football, and hockey.
