UNIVERSITY DEGREES

TWO CONFERRED ON WAR PRISONERS (P.A.) WELLINGTON, Oct. 23. An unusual feature of the most recent conferment of degrees by the University of New Zealand was that two of the degrees were conferred upon prisoners of war. Mr J. H. Hall, M.A., LL.B., the wellknown New Zealand journalist who was public relations officer with the 2nd N.Z.E.F., completed his course by taking his two final subjects while in a prison camp in Germany. The papers were forwarded from New Zealand. Mr L. D. Lee, 8.C0m., had completed the bulk of his work before leaving the Dominion, but was granted, on receipt of his application, a war concession pass in his final subject. The diplomas are in the meantime being lodged with the next-of-kin, but the University is also informing the two graduates by air mail. The list of degrees conferred is as follows: , Bachelor of Arts.—May Cameron Mullay (University of Otago). Bachelor of Science.—Edmin Harry Driver, M.A. (Auckland University College). Bachelor of Laws.—John Herbert Hall, M.A., prisoner of war (Victoria University College). , , Bachelor of Commerce—Leslie Daniel Lee, prisoner of war (Auckland University College). Bachelor of Music.—William Leslie Francis (University of Otago). Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical).— Thaddeus Ross Julian (Canterbury University College).
