CHRISTIAN ORDER

MOVEMENT TO CONTINUE (P.A.) WELLINGTON, Oct. 23. A statement signed by Bishop Holland, the Rev. W. A. Burley (chairman of the Wellington District of the Methodist Church), Mr E. H. Dowsett (Society of Friends), the Rev. A. B. Kilroy (St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church), the Rev. H. W. Newell (The Terrace Congregational Church), the Rev. L. A. North (Central Baptist Church),- and Commissioner J. Evan Smith (Salvation Army) says that, lest there should be misconception In the minds of the public about the Campaign for Christian Order arising out of the statement by the Rev. P. Gladstone Hughes, they as members of the executive wish to make the following comment:—

“The National Council of Churches in New Zealand inaugurated the campaign, and is the only body that can bring it to an end. So far from doing that, the National Council has unanimously passed the following resolution:—’ That the activities of the .Christian Order Movement, hitherto carried on as a campaign, be continued with Christian Order weeks, study groups, youth work, etc., leading up to a national conference towards the end of 1944.’ "

The statement adds: "While the office in Wellington will be closed as from next January, the work will go on with an office at Christchurch, and it is worth noting that ' the National Council of Churches will meet next week to appoint a new secretary, whose main duties for the coming year will be connected with the Christian Order Movement.”
