CHAIR OF PHYSIOLOGY
SUCCESSOR TO DR MALCOLM DR J. C. ECCLES APPOINTED Dr J. C. Eccles, M. 8., B.S. (Melb.), M.A., D.Phil. (Oxon.), F.R.A.C.P., F.R.S., has been appointed professor of physiology at the University of Otago in succession to Dr Malcolm, who will retire from the chair at the end of the year after nearly 39 years' service. Dr Eccles Is at present director of the Kanematsu Memorial Institute of Pathology at Sydney Hospital, a position’he has held since-1937. He was born in Australia and studied medicine at Melbourne University from 1920 to 1925. He won a Rhodes Scholarship, and continued his studies at Oxford from 1925 to 1927, and was a tutor and lecturer in physiology at Oxford until 1937. During the epurse of his studies Dr Eccles gained a number of first class honours and scholarships.
