TORPEDO BOMBERS
AIR FORCE EXPANSION USE IN PACIFIC OPERATIONS (P A ) WELLINGTON, Oct. 23. Another important development in the expansion of the R.N.Z.A.F. was announced to-day by the Minister of Defence, Mr F. Jones. “ New Zealand’s fast-growing air strength in the Pacific area will shortly receive an important addition in the form of torpedo-bomber units,” he said. “These aircraft are now in the Dominion and training operations are to commence in the near future. “Torpedo bombers have been employed with great success in sea warfare and the New Zealand Torpedobomber Squadron operating in Britain has established a brilliant record,” Mr Jones added. The aircraft to be employed in the Pacific area are Ameri-can-manufactured Grumman Avengers. Our American allies have used them with great effect against the Japanese, and we look forward to the day in the not so distant future when we can join them in this type of attack.”
