CHRISTIAN ORDER WEEK
FIRST CITY EFFORT Dunedin is to be the centre of the first “Christian Order Week” to be held in any of the large cities of the Dominion, and the influence of this pioneering effort will affect plans for similar undertakings elsewhere. The choice was made because of Dunedin s traditional interest in religion and the close co-operation which has been developed by the churches during the past two years. In view of these facts, an appeal has been addressed by the committee of the National Council ot Churches through its chairman, the Rev. R. S. Watson, to all church and community leaders to give the fullest possible co-operation in the plans made for the period from October 3 to 10. The committee met on Tuesday to review the preparations which have extended over several months. It was reported that the Dominion directoi of the Campaign for Christian Order, the Rev. F. H. Robertson, had arrived from Wellington to work with the Otago committee and to participate in the meetings. Other visiting speakers would be Dr Enid Cook (of Christchurch), and the Revs. L. A. North (Wellington) and M. A. McDowell (Christchurch). The Week’s Programme It is considered fortunate that the opening services on Sunday next should coincide with world-wide Communion Sunday, which is observed at the request of the World Council of Churches, issued from its Geneva headquarters. It has been arranged that the morning sermons shall be on “ Christian Unity,” and the evening ones on “The Church and the Community.” Tuesday evening’s meeting in the Concert Chamber, over which the Rev. Allen) will give a civic recognition of the “ week,’ and will welcome the visiting speakers. Addresses will be given by the Rev. L A. North, Dr J. D. Salmond, and Mr R. M. Burgess. .
