TWO CANDIDATES BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCHES The following are biographical sketches of the two candidates in the Waitaki electorate: — Kidd, D. C. (National).—Bom Shag Point, 1889; educated Albury School: afterwards worked on father’s run until latter retired in 1909; with a brother, took over property and farmed it until 1915; enlisted and served in Palestine with Eightli South Canterbury Mounted Rifles; wounded at Gaza; after war took up farming in Central Otago and interested himself in public activities; president of Strath-Taieri branch of R.S.A. and also member Middlemarch Hospital Committee; in 1922 left Central Otago and took up property at Burke’s Pass; member of Canterbury Land Board and Crown Tenants’ Association, being Dominion president of latter body; appointed justice of peace in 1933; obtained seat on Timaru Harbour Board in 1935 as one of representatives of Mackenzie County; won Waitaki seat at 1938 election against D. Barnes (Labour). „ , Adams, J. S. (Labour).—Born Kakanui, 1887; educated Maerewhenua School and also studied by correspondence; took up farming in Waitaki district and lias been so engaged there ever since; present farming at Otekaike; member of Farmers Union and on executive of local branch for some years; elected to Waitaki Council for Otekaike Riding in 1935 and returned unopposed in 1941; member of Oamaru Harbour Board. 3935-38, and member of Otago Land Board since 1937.
