W.C.T.U.

The thanksgiving service in connection with the golden jubilee of the granting of the franchise for women, was held in the St. Paul’s Hall on Sunday, Miss J. B. of the Waitaki Girls' High School, presiding. The Mayoress (Miss Betty Klrkness) extended a welcome to all. Miss Wilson said that it was a privilege to preside at the meeting. It was fitting that the Women’s Temperance Union should celebrate the occasion, as they had given great assistance to the movement. Miss Kirkness said that the occasion was an outstanding event in the history of New Zealand and a milestone in the forward march of women towards freedom. Prayers were read by Mesdames H. Hay and Williamson. Miss Wilson gave a Scripture reading. 'Three short addresses, on “The Past,” “The Present,” and "The Future,” were given by Miss Cowan. Mrs Dorward, and Mrs Maries. Miss Cowan proposed a vote of thanks to Miss Wilson and Miss Kirkness, and all who had helped to make the afternoon a success.
