mosgiel business mens ASSOCIATION The quota of the 1943 All Purposes Appeal 9 for Mosgiel and the surrounding district is £1962. As the total collected recently stood at less than £IOOO, the local Businessmen s Association set about making up the deA ciencv as far as possible. The means to attain the desired goal comprised a concert and community sing, a fancy dress ball, and a paddy’s market. The total result was just on £3OO, ana, though the full objective was not reached by the association, the members are grateful to all who helped. A first-class concert party of Dunedin entertainers and the TaJen Pipe Band in conjunction with the W.A.A.F (Taieri) Drum Band assisted at the community sing. The fancy dress ball attracted 120 couples, about half of that number being in fancy dress. The Royal Dance Band supplied the music. Mr W. Cameron as “the curate and Miss Weddell a “little old lady” secured the principal prizes. The costumes were so good that four special prizes were added. .... The paddy’s market was held m the afternoon and evening, and was a very successful affair. The three stalls and tea rooms were in charge of the tea rooms were in charge of the three Women’s Institutes. The side shows were run by the fire brigades, and all had a very busy time. A procession to celebrate the capitulation of Italy was held in the evening.
