NAVY LEAGUE

MEETING OF EXECUTIVE The monthly meeting of the executive of the Navy League was presided over by Mr J. Sutherland Ross. A welcome was extended to Mr Edmund J. Smith, whose indisposition had precluded his attendance at past meetings. Cablegrams and correspondence between the president and the High Commissioner for New Zealand in London, Mr W. J. Jordan, were read to the meeting concerning the proposed shipment of foodstuffs for seamen and their dependents suffering from enemy action, especially in bombed seaports. Commander Fraser submitted a report covering the activities of the Sea Cadet Corps for the past three months. Eight cadets had been accepted for naval service, and it was pleasing to note that these cadets were readily accepted by the navy. There was no shortage of volunteers to keep the corps up to full strength. In January next, a team of 12 cadets would compete for the Fitzgerald Cup against cadets from Auckland, Wellington, and Canterbury branches. The tournament would be held in conjunction with the training camp at Quail Island. It was reported that from the wool allocations made by the National Patriotic Fund Board, the Otago branch received 1001 bof navy wool'per month. Five applications for membership were approved.
