Magistrate’s Court.—Mr R. C. Abernethy, S.M., presided over a short sitting of the Magistrate's Court on Wednesday Judgment by default was given in the case of Lischner and McNeil v. W. P. Templeton (Balclutha) fo-r £3 4s 8d (costs 10s), for goods supplied.—William Dale, a farmer, of Tapanui, charged with lending his . .22 rifle to an unauthorised' PernSon, was convicted and. fined '-£2 (costs 10s).—Verner Potts, a farmer, of Tajlanulx, was convicted and fined £1 (costs 12s) for using an unlicensed car on a public road.—William McPeake, a farmer, of Kelso, ghargbd with driving an .unregistered motor car without due care and attention, not being the holder of .a driver’s licence, and not having a warrant of fitness, was convicted and fined £1 10s (costs 12s) on the first charge, and 10s (costs 10s) on the second and third charges. Bowling.—At the annual meeting of the Tapanui Bowling Club Mr W. Coatsworth (vice-president) presided over a small attendance. Mr H. W. Wolstenholme (president) wrote resigning from the club owing to his removal from the district, and the resignation was accepted with regret. The balance sheet, showing a credit balance of £l9 8s lOd, was, In the words of the chairman, most gratifying for a club with such a small membership, and was unanimously adopted. The following officers were elected President, Mr W. Coatsworth; vice-president, Mr J. C. Cameron; secretary and treasurer, Mr H. S. Whyte; auditor, Mr H. J. Hay; green supervisor, Mr W. Coatsworth; Executive Committee—the president, vicepresident, secretary, and Messrs J. Kerse and M. E. McAuley; selector, Mr L. Peat; delegate to centre, Mr J. D. Campbell. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to the ladies’ section for its generous support during the past year. The matter of obtaining a new lease of the club's section was left in the hands of the Executive Committee.
School Committee.—The monthly meeting of the Tapanui District High School Committee was held on Thursday evening, Mr K. Rodger presiding. Routine business was transacted, and accounts amounting to £8 4s 6d were passed for payment. The secretary was authorised to transfer £BS from the committee's special account to the Post Office account. This sum had been subscribed by the public for the purchase of school sports material and is to be retained until suitable material is procurable. The headmaster reported that there were 164 pupils on the primary roll and 18 on the secondary.
