OBITUARY
MR W. J. BEVIN Mr William James Bevin,.. whose death occurred >in Dunedin ~ recently, in his seventy - fourth year, was born at Kent, England, in 1869, and came to New Zealand with his parents on the sailing vessel Earl of Zetland when six years of age. .He was, apprenticed to the cabinetmaking -tra^efV'vmh, of William Nees, ttieb'iirrthe old shdp/ln St. Andrew street He was later engaged in the cabinetmaking trade at Christchurch, Oamaru, Invercargill, Hawera, and Gore. At the time of his retirement Mr Bevin was foreman of the furniture department of Mr Adam Speden’s factory at Gore. A keen'member-, of 'the Kaikorai, Woolstqn,'-Qamapi,/ Garrison, and Gore Municipal s -.Bamds.-;’he took part in numerous contests, and he was also associated with orchestral societies in the towns in which he resided. As a member of the Gore Baptist Church Mr Bevin was an ardent church worker, being a life deacon, and for some time a Sunday school superintendent. He is survived by his wife and one son, James (Wellington).
