By Sentinel The Gore Trotting Club holds accumuited funds amounting to £5216 17s, The club has contributed £ISOO to the Dominion's war finances. Only 10 horses dropped out at the declaration of acceptances for the first day of the Metropolitan Trotting Club’s meeting. . Highland Scott and Courier have each been penalised 48 yards in the Introductory Handicap, in which they figure as acceptors. The October meeting of the New Brighton Trotting Club wil be held at Addington.
It is reported that big money could be obtained for Paul Collette if the owner would sell.
The New Brighton Trotting Club and the Wellington Trotting Club have followed the lead of the Metropolitan Trotting Club and included the fourth horse as a participant in the stakes. The death is reported from Australia of Mr A. D. Playfair, who bought RibbonWood at lOOOgns shortly after the famous son of Wildwood arrived in Australia. Ribbonwood became one of the most successful stallions ever identified with light harness racing. ~ The state of the going at the Auckland Trotting Club’s meeting can be gathered from the fact that every race was won in time well outside the class attached to it Parrish Lad from a 3min 33sec mark in a 3min 35sec class won In 3min 43 4-ssec. and Highland Scott from a 4min 44sec mark won in smin lOsec. Only one straightout favourite won during the day and the betting dropped £12,046 10s on last year’s figures. •• _ , . It is stated in the Trotting Calendar that in spite of the many requests that have been made, some breeders still refrain from supplying returns to the compiler of the Trotting Stud Book. The breeders who neglect to supply returns lay themselves open to a charge that they deliberately refrain in order to keep the public in ighorance of what might be deemed attractive breeding, which draws extra support on the totalisator. Light harness racing, with rich stakes for handicaps and classic events, Is promoted foi the encouragement M Improvement in breeding, and in order to bring the delinquent breeders into line on y horses in the Stud Book should be eligible fox nomination in classic events.
