ALLIED HEAVY BOMBERS

HIGH RATE OF LOSSES (Rec. 1.40 a.m.) LONDON, Aug. 19. An Air Force spokesman in Washington told the press that the losses of Allied heavy bombers over Europe were increasing with Allied air power. This did not mean that the German opposition was more effective. The Allies’ numerical losses were high, but the rate was not approaching a rate at which raids would cease to be profitable.

During July the Eighth Air Force lost 108 heavy bombers,: dropped 3600 tons of bombs on Europe, and shot down 506 enemy planes. In June it lost 85 bombers, dropped 2450 tons of bombs, and shot down 304 enemy planes.
