A SECOND FRONT
FRESH SOVIET DEMAND LONDON, Aug. 18.
Another Soviet demand for the opening of a second front by the Allies was made by the newspaper Red Star. Commenting on the Quebec Conference, the paper said the disposition of the German reserves indicated that the Germans did not expect large-scale Allied operations in the near future. The main German efforts were concentrated against the Red Army. “We have repeatedly pointed out that by a second front we mean action which would divert 50 to 60 German divisions from the Russian front,” the paper adds. “This is the only action which would considerably shorten the war.”
