NATIONAL PARTY’S CAMPAIGN

OPENING ADDRESS ON AUGUST 31 A statement that the general election campaign of the National Party would be officially opened on August 31, when he would give a policy address in Christchurch, was made by the leader of the party, Mr S. G. Holland, at a meeting of supporters in Christchurch North. The speech would be broadcast throughout New Zealand, he said. The campaign programme was outlined by Mr Holland, who also discussed the different influences on the election and the prospects of the party. He expressed pleasure at the type of National Party candidates so far selected in more than 70 electorates. Many of the candidates were young men, and a number had given service with the armed forces in the present war.
