The Dunedin Manufacturers’ Association, at its monthly meeting yesterday, appointed Mr F. M. Halsted lo represent it on the council of the Chamber of Commerce.
The resignation of Cr H. H. Johnson as a member of the St. Kilda Borough Council was accepted at the meeting of the council last night, and it was decided to record appreciation of his services during his membership of the council. Messrs H. Archbold and J. W. Pearson were nominated to fill the vacancy, and on a ballot being taken Mr Pearson was appointed The post of representative in New Zealand of the United States War Shipping Administration has been relinquished by Captain M. J. Bulger, and his successor, Mr Herbert L. Schage, former operations manager of the American Hawaiian Steamship Company, took over his new apointment yesterday. Mr Schage has been with the administration in Auckland for two months. Captain Bulger will return to his former position of port captain of the Matson Line at San Francisco.
The Mayor (Mr A. H. Allen), Cr W. B. Taverner. Cr E. J. Smith, and the town clerk (Mr R. A. Johnston) were appointed by the City Council last night to confer with the council of the University of Otago with respect to means by which the city could assist the University. The meeting of the City Council was attended by the Mayor and Crs R. Walls, J. McCrae, Taverner, J. Wilson, M. C. Henderson, Smith, L. J. T. Ireland, and D. C. Jolly.
