By Sentinel Fairy Bard was well placed over the first part of the Islington Handicap, but failed to stay on. Silver Mask has always been a smart beginner, but he failed to emerge from the crowd in the Woolston Handicap. Desert Strife ran a good race to gain a place in the Woolston Handicap, in which she drew ,30 at the barrier. ; Boloyna and Platform struck trouble early in the Islington Handicap and never got near the leaders at the business end of the race. Hearth was handy to the leaders ’jyien racing to the home turn in the August Handicap, but failed to show up .in the run to the post. i;' ! ■ Hanover improved a good "deal ’to win the Hunt Cup, in which he won all the way. Donadea was unlucky in being carried off the course when Minton dropped his rider. Brilliant track work foifnd strong support coming for Justitia in the Woolston Handicap, but her chance was settled at the rise of the barrier. Sovereign Lad was rather .unlucky at Riccarton as he drew off-the-course numbers in both races. He showed up with the leaders in the Sumner Handicap at the home turn, but then* dropped away. Moderate and Borak were regarded as sure to settle the finish of the Spreydon Hurdles between them, but they failed to issue a serious challenge to Knight Commander in the run from the last hurdle.
Kevin began from 16 in the Islington Handicap and ran a good solid race, but Bashful Lady, with 10.0 up and giving 151 b, proved rather too good for him. Paladeo ran a good race in the Islington Handicap, and got worried out of second place by only a narrow margin. He paid over double figures for a place. / Town Survey put up a record when he won the Grand National Hurdles, as he is the only horse to win the Great Northern Hurdles, the Winter Hurdles at o I Trentham. and the Grand National 1 Hurdles. • v
Bashful Lady has failed on several occasions to stay out a mild and a-Quarter, but did so under a welter-weight in the Islington Handicap when helped by masterly riding. She was well placed and patiently handled until well into the straight, and then responded to a vigorous call to win a double
It is very rare for a horse to establish such a big lead; as. jhfit put ; up; by Dark Olga in the Islington Handicap. Half a mile from home she was fully eight lengths clear, of. the .rest-of the field, but she went too fast to last and dropped back in the straight. Dozie Bey was travelling well when he raced up to Anglo-French and Noko at the big brush known as Cutts’s. He tipped out. and might have been at least in the money if more patiently handled at that stage of the journey. Anglo-French had a rise of 151 b: on his Grand National burden when he started for the Lincoln Steeples. It was most interesting to see him and his stat/e-mate, Noko, taking each fence together and racing stride for stride. Anglo-French made a. couple of mistakes, but they were not of a serious nature, and Beale' again rode a good race to win Noko tired in the run from the last jump, and Chat beat him to the post. „
