INSULTING LETTERS
SOLDIERS IN THE PACIFIC KEEN RESENTMENT AROUSED (P.A.) WELLINGTON, Aug. 13. “ Some of the replies they wrote in answer to letters of thanks have been sent to us by disgusted soldiers. We have also received letters from the mothers of these boys bitterly complaining of the attitude of these women,” said Mr Vincent Ward, honorary secretary of the Wellington Patriotic Committee, yesterday, commenting on the action of women who wrote to New Zealand troops serving in the Pacific expressing resentment at their parcels being sent there instead of to the Middle East. " When we first heard of this we frankly did not believe it.’’ Mr Ward said. “We did not believe there were people in New Zealand who would write such insulting letters to men serving overseas, but, unfortunately, the evidence proves otherwise. We think there can be only a few such people, but the harm thes.e few do and the ill-feeling they cause are very great. These letters are unjust, and I suggest to those who have written them that they should make amends for the harm they have caused.”
