OWAKA

Soldiers Welcomed.—A social evening was held at Owaka on Monday evening, the guests of honour being Private Richard Wratten and Sergeant A. McEwen, who are at present home on furlough. The programme consisted of dancing and concert items., a feature being the conjuring tricks by Mr Philip Duncan. Before the supper interval the guests of the evening were called to the stage by the chairman (Mr E. R. Crawford), and associated with them was Private Lothian Gibbs, of Houipapa, who is also home on furlough. Mr Thomas Maginness. Dr H. N. Johnson, and Mr W. Gorman, the lastnamed on behalf of the R.S.A., delivered speeches of welcome, and each of the guests replied. _ , R.S.A. Meeting.—Mr W. Friend presided over a full meeting of the executive of the Owaka R.S.A. on Saturday last Mr Gorman gave a full report of his attendance at the conference of branenes recently held in Dunedin. The subject of rehabilitation, particularly in regard to land settlement, was fully discussed.
