TROTTING NOTES

By Sentinel

The Quite Sure gelding Certainty has a fine turn of speed, and if he can be persuaded to begin smoothly he should have a successful season as a six-year-old. Dunstan Direct paced some good races during the past season, and the roan Wellington Direct gelding will need to show only slight improvement to win good race's. ~ ~ Royal Fortune, the five-year-old gelding by Quite Sure from Little Mountain, is expected to show good form this season. In his efforts last season he gave every indication of developing into a smart performer. , , Mr George Paul is back again to business, and is attending to his official duties as handicapper. He has had a long illness. but now appears to be on the road to. complete recovery. Since Great Thorn won the Ferry Handicap at Wyndham in March, he has not been seen on the race track. The confident support accorded to him at Wyndham left the impression that the Drusus gelding is capable of reaching better company Complaints have been made because in the reassessments for the season commencing this month some horses have been treated better than others. For instance, Springfield Globe and Special Edition have been let out over all distances, and Bronze Eagle and Loyal Rey kept on the same marks as they were allotted last season. Neither Bronze Eagle nor Loyal Rey won a race last season. Loyal Rey ran second in the New Zealand Trotting Cup off 4min 26sec, for which he was penalised 12 yards; Other placings Drought him £825 in stakes. He is on 2min 12sec, 2min 45sec, and 4min 25sec. It is claimed that Springfield Globe’s form is on a par with that of Bronze Eagle. Fine Art, Bayard, Dusky Sound, and Ferry Post have been let out, and so has Stormtost, and they are regarded as being better treated than others.
