BASKETBALL
TAVERNER CUP MATCH (Special) OAMARU, Aug. 8. In the representative basketball matches between Otago and North Otago at Oamaru on Saturday afternoon North Otago won the A Grade for the Taverner Cup by 20 goals to 17, and Otago won the B Grade for the Kinder Cup by 17 goals to 7. The following were the results of the women’s matches on Saturday:— First Grade. —Albany I 18, Kiwi 6; Y.W.C.A. I 26. O.G.H.S. 14; Y.W.C.A. II 27, Training College I 23; High School Ex-girls 21, Training College II 19; University 14, Albany II 6. Third Grade.—Training College G 16, Y.W.C.A. II 8; Taieri 18, Albany 7; St. Dominic’s 12, Elco 6; Ravensbourne I 19, Kiwi 9; A. and T. Inglis 1, Air Force nil. Representative Team The following women players have been selected to represent Otago Third Grade in the fixture against South Otago on August 21: Forwards —J. Carruthers (Aotea), C. McLachlan (Gregg’s), C. Ridding (Defiance), P. Holt (C.F.H.); centres—M. Ryan (Bradley’s), E. Doggart (0.G.H.5.), N. Lauder (A. and T. Inglis), V. Windsor (Training College); defence— V. Cocrane (Y.W.C.A.), N. Prydem (A. and T. Inglis). V. McGavin ‘ (0.G.H.5.), F. Gray (Defiance). A practice will be held in the Brydone Hall tc-night.
