GROWING UNREST
REPORTS FROM BALKANS (Rec. 11 p.m.) NEW YORK, Aug. 6. ‘Reliable reports from the Balkans and Hungary show that unrest is growing among the subjugated people, whom Mussolini’s fall has stirred more than ever to audacious action," says the Cairo correspondent of the New York Times. “Walls,, bill boards, and even macadam roads in Greece are every day covered with anti-Axis and pro-Allied slogans, while the partisan forces in Croatia are using loudspeakers mounted on lorries to rebroadcast the 8.8. C. news bulletins to the Italian army of occupation, thereby exploiting the rise of defeatism among all ranks.
“ Figures received from a trustworthy source disclose that the partisans have so fEU- killed ‘65,000, wounded 10,000, and captured 300 Italians, ’including t military bands with all their instruments. Moreover, flying columns keep menacing Axis communications by blowihg up railroads and harassing Danube shipping.”
