OWAKA
Soldiers Welcomed.—An enthusiastic welcome was accorded to the soldiers on furlough from the Middle East at Owaka on Wednesday afternoon, when Sergeant A. McEwen ‘and Privates Jack Wilson, Lothian Gibbs, and Richard Wratten arrived back, after approximately three years’ service overseas. A large gathering of residents of Owaka and the surrounding districts, together with the school children and teachers and local returned soldiers, awaited their arrival at the new post office, and the men were received with rousing cheers as they alighted from their taxi. After the personal greetings of relatives and friends, Cr Maginness welcomed the men, and expressed admiration of the part they had played in the conflict. Mr S. R. McDowell (vicepresident of the local R.S.A.) spoke on behalf of the association. The men were conveyed to their respective homes in private cars.
