COMMUNITY SINGING
The proceeds of the community sing which was held in the Strand- Theatre yesterday will be devcted to the Salvation Army funds. Brigadier H. C. Goffin, of the Salvation Army, who sang two popular numbers, thanked the Community Sing Committee for its generous support. The singing was again of a high standard, the most popular items being “ When the Lights Go On All Over the World,” “ Nellie Kelly,” and “ Rule, Britannia.” A number of donations were received or promised for the singing cf “A Prayer for Airmen,” the words of which may be obtained from the committee or the secretary. The singing was led by Mr H. P. Desmoulins, assisted by Mr J. F. Himburg. Mr A. Pettitt was the pianist. The following donations and promises, including some which were not acknowledged last week, were received:— “ Weekly,” S. E. (Roslyn), £5; F. A. (Owaka), “Well-wisher” (North-East Valley), “Anonymous” (Waihemo), "Airman,” "Scott Street." J. C. Rigby, £1; Mrs Malcolm, “Anonymous” (Moonlight), H. L. (Balclutha), "Grateful,” J. W. Bowden (Ashburton), 10s; S. D. Corston (Milton), “ Edenvale,” .ss; “ Normanby ” (weekly), 3s. Flowers and goods were received from the following:—Mrs J. C. McGeorge (weekly), Miss Artlett (weekly), “Gran” (Christchurch), Mrs Martin (Ross Home), Mrs Freeman, Mrs Geeson, Mrs Hellyer, Mrs McQuire. Mrs Smeal, Mrs Smith, Mrs Weicks, Miss McLeod, Miss Scott, Mrs J. Brown (dolls), and Mr McKay. The collection amounted to £27.
