PROTECTION OF WOMEN AND CHILDREN
The monthly meeting of the Society for the Protection of Women and Children was held in the committee room, Town Hall, on Tuesday, there being present— Mrs Park, vice-president (in the chair), the Mayoress (Mrs A. H. Allen), Dr McKinnon, Mesdames Ross, Todd, and Downing, Sister Elinor, the Rev. W. A. Curzon-Slggers, and the secretary (Miss Coe-Smith). ' " ' /. . , A letter was read from the staff,of the public school, Newtown, Wellington, advising that at, a meeting of the staff of the school it 5 was unanimously resolved that the.' Government be asked—(l) . To
enact ■ legislation forbidding the attendance* of children under the age of,,a* at picture theatres from Monday to Thursday of each week, except for the pur* pose of viewing educational films under school authority; . (2) to formulate labour legislation prohibiting child labour under 14 for more than six hours a. week, with a "total prohibition of night work.—lt was unanimously resolved to endorse the above resolution. • \ ’ Dr McKinnon informed the committee that, owing to the aid posts being fully organised, ■ she was now able/ to resume her duties as president.
