NAVAL PROMOTION

LIEUTENANT A. A. BELL, who has been promoted to the rank of lieutenant-commander. He was educated in Auckland, and in 1925 ♦ joined the Royal New Zealand Naval Volunteer Reserve, there. In 1928 he transferred to the Otago division of the Reserve, and continued to serve with it until he was mobilised in September, 1939. He left for England two years later and took command of a new minesweeper, which he brought to New Zealand. He is still in charge of the vessel. He married a daughter of Mr H. Robinson, of King street, Dunedin.
