THE COST OF WAR

WASHINGTON. (Rec. 0.30 a.m.) July 13. Representative Gannon, chairman of the House Appropriations Committee, states that the Treasury expects that war expenditure, which averaged 90,000,000 dollars a day for the last threg years, will reach 265,000,000 dollars a day from July 1. The actual expenditure on the war programme for the three years ended July 1 was 104,421,000,000 dollars. It is expected that 97,000,000,000 dollars will be spent on war purposes in the current fiscal year, in addition to non-war expenditure amounting to 7,214,000,000 dollars.
