BALCLUTHA
Balclutha Bowling Club.—The annual meeting oi the Balclutha Bowling Club on Saturday night was well attended. The report, and balance sheet showed that the cluo was in a sound financial position. The election of office-bearers resulted: President, Mr L. Cockerill; senior vicepresident, Mr C. Gibb; junior vice-presi-dent, Mr R. Mcßride; secretary, Mr R. Hutton (re-elected); auditor, Mr D. Ballantyne; games controller, Mr W. Mayne; green supervisors, Messrs Mayne and R. Mcßride; handicappcr and selector, Mr .lames Gold; delegates to centre, Messrs W. Luke and J. McNamara; committee— Messrs W. Mayne, C. O’Hara, A. Hall, P. McGregor, L. J. Edwards, P. A. Low. Mr J. Porter was reappointed greenkeeper. Rugby Football.—At Clinton, on Saturday, Clutha defeated Clinton by 11 points to 4. Major, Washington and Smith scored for Clutha, and Michie converted one try. The Clinton half-back kicked a field goal. Mr A. Ritchie was referee. At Kaitangata Toko I and Crescent I played a drawn game, 6 points each. This was a Glen thorn Cup match, and Crescent retained the trophy. No junior matches were played. Crescent could not raise a team and High School could not obtain transport. Next Saturday Crescent and Clutha seniors will meet at Balclutha for the Glenthorn Cup, and as a curtainraiser the Balclutha Primary School will field two fifteens. Toko seniors will travel to Clinton. Toko juniors will play Clutha juniors at Milton, and High School will play Crescent at Kaitangata. Balclutha Men’s Golf Club.— Following are the results of a Four-ball Bogey Match played on Saturday:—Thompson and Richards 5 up, Watson and Fowler 4 up, Marshall and Ashcroft 2 up, Frengley and Sutherland 1 up, Egarr and Scott 1 down, O. Throp and C. McGuire 5 down. Personal.—P.F.C. Edison L. Lester, of the United States Marine Corps, is at present the guest of Mr and Mrs J. R. Copland, of Charlotte street. Quota Not Reached.—The total subscribed in South Otago for the Liberty Loan, which closed on Saturday, was £98,900 2s Bd. whereas the quota-set was £IBO,OOO. A number of payments were, however, made direct to Dunedin through banks and stock agents, and also through Post Office Savings Bank accounts which are lodged in. Dunedin. It is considered by the local committee that i|f these sums were added to the total then the sum would be well over £IOO,OOO. Following are details of district subscripHons:—Balclutha £79,434 3s 4d (quota £66£00), Kaitangata £7585 7s 4d, Clin on £4148 13s, Clydevale £2291 3s, Owaka £2119 14s, Waitahuna £1197 12s, Waiwera £lOlO 9s Waipahi £666 2s, Stirling £446 19s. The sum of £7OO was raised in Balclutha by the sale of Liberty Bonds on the occasion of the visit of a concert party from the Commercial Broadcasting Service last Friday.
