Swing first captured America and then every other country, affecting the tempo not only of music but of daily life, and influencing literature, art and amusement in a remarkable way. Although the new music shocked and disturbed many people, nothing could stop its onset until, by a process of evolution, it become part of the pattern of life. However, quarrels still take place between the proponents of "modern” and traditional music.
