PHOSPHORUS BOMBS

CHARGES AGAINST R.A.F. ADMITTED TO BE UNTRUE (Rec. 10 p.m.) STOCKHOLM, July 10. German experts admit that the Axis charges that the R.A.F. was dropping phosphorus incendiarifes are untrue, said the Tidningen’s Berlin correspondent. The experts said that Englishmen do not rain phosphorus on inland towns, as was generally believed in Germany. The mistake arose when the R.A.F. dropped flares containing illumination charges, which fell out when the flare had fallen a certain distance. These flares light up an area of some hundreds of square yards, and the glare is visible through the thickest cloud. The German authorities are advising the fire guards fearlessly to extinguish illumination charges.
