PRODUCTION COUNCILS

WORK PRAISED BY MINISTER

“ The Increased demand for agricultural products to meet civilian requirements and to fulfil our commitments to the armed forces has added considerably to the work of the councils of primary production, ’’ said the Minister ,of Agriculture, Mr J. G. Barclay, on Saturday. “In addition to the organisation of actual production, the councils have also rendered invaluable assistance in matters of fertiliser rationing, man-power problems, and supplies of farm equipment and materials." The Minister further stated that district councils of primary production were now established in 36 districts, each having office facilities and a full-time secretary. Tire Government had made available the necessary funds for this purpose. “ I desire to pay a i sincei'e tribute to the work of the primary production councils," the Minister added, " and particularly to farmer-members of district councils, who, without remuneration, have given of their time and energy in service to the farming community.”
