Mr J. C. H. Somerville left for Wellington on Saturday to attend the annual meeting of the New Zealand Process Engravers’ Federation.

Mr Charles Smith left on Saturday for Wellington to attend the annual conference of the Red Cross Society of New Zealand. The condition of Mr W. Lee Martin, M.P. for Raglan, who is a patient in the Lewisham Hospital, Hamilton, is reported to be still serious. Mr Martin was admitted to the hospital last week after a heart seizure which occurred in Parliament Buildings. Passengers who left for the north by airliner on .Saturday were Miss A. Gunn, Mr H. H. Dobie. I&r W. J. Murfitt, Mrs Richardson, and Mr C. Aspden for Christchurch, Mrs K. McLeod, Mr H. Brown, Mr T. J. Gray, Mr Falconer and Mr J. Young for Wellington. Mr D. W. Guthrie, senior surgical officer at the Auckland Hospital for the past four years, has been appointed acting medical superintendent of the Green Lane Hospital. He will be in charge of surgical work at the hospital. Mr Guthrie, who is a son of Mr H. D. Guthrie, of Lower Hutt, was previously resident medical officer at Auckland Hospital for two years before he went overseas to obtain further experience.
