BIRTHDAY HONOURS
BRITISH RECIPIENTS SIR HUGH DOWDING A BARON (Rec. 11 p.m.) RUGBY, June 1. Air Chief Marshal Sir Hugh Dowding was made a baron in the Birthday Honours. There are four new Privy Councillors —Mr Harcourt Johnstone, parliamentary secretary to the Department of Overseas Trade; Mr Geoffrey Lloyd, parliamentary secretary to the Ministry of Fuel and Power; Colonel Lord Templemore, captain of the Yeomen of the Guard; and Mr Joseph Eastwood. Under-secretary for Scotland. Many of the other honours in the list are bestowed upon officers and tnen and civilians of the dominions and colonies. The war services, women, and members of the Home Guard are also recognised. A former second in command of the Salvation Army in New Zealand, Commissioner Albert Osborn, has received the C.B.E. He is at present head of the Army’s evangelical operations, embracing 1600 corps throughout the British Isles. He is one of the Army's greatest song writers.
